Brown Pelicans

31" x 23" Framed Archival photographic print $395.00 "Conservation" The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) By 1970 the Brown pelican was declared Endangered through the Endangered Species Act (ESA) due to over hunting and DDT and other pesticides. DDT was banned in 1972 and with nesting habitat protection, the pelican was removed from the endangered list in 2009 and populations continue to increase. The Brown pelican is a shining example of the success in conservation and habitat preservation. Habitat: Coastal marine habitats. Brown Pelicans can occasionally be seen at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

The Hungry Three Musketeers

It was quite noisy down on the water this afternoon. In the past few weeks I've seen Elena and Alejandro spend time on their nest, but the older brother Diego prefers to spend time on their favorite evergreen tree across the water. Tonight, all three were on the nest screaming their heads off for dinner delivery. Zorro and Esperanza were nowhere in site and didn't appear during my short visit. I wonder if they are starting to cut the kids off to force them to start fishing on their own. It'll be interesting to see what unfolds with these youngsters.
