    Sika deer - yearling

Not on display at Hollingsworth Gallery but notable discoveries within our area National Wildlife Refuges.

  • This weaned Gray seal pup was seen on the OSV zone in Maryland this morning which was rare upon itself and a first for me. I've only seen a few seal heads now and again in the inlet and when I observed her/him, I wasn't sure if the sand around its eyes and drool was normal.

Now that I'm home, I'm certain s/he isn't well and contacted the National Aquarium in OC to notify them of the sighting. They are aware of this pup and s/he is under current observation. Evidently weaned seal pups have a weakened immune system. Luckily this one is eating on its own and should have a promising future.
